Former Mayor Frank Tauches was first elected a director of the Western Property Owners' Association in 1986, serving as chairman of Programs and Publicity. He continued on the Board and in 1987 was appointed to the Library Board of Trustees and became chairman of the Budget Committee. He was first elected a Village trustee in 1990.

During his first tenure as trustee, Tauches served as Police Commissioner, chairman of the Traffic Commission, chairman of the Committee to Fill Vacancies, and the liaison to the business community. In March of 1996 he was elected mayor of the Village. During his tenure as mayor he continued the Village's plans to revitalize Franklin Avenue and advocated for the lease of St. Paul's to CareMatrix. Tauches worked to serve the residents and the business community, and is now a member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Tauches graduated from Loughlin Memorial High School and received his bachelor of arts in math from Fordham University. He got his Juris Doctorate in 1970 from St. John's Law School and was admitted to practice before New York, Federal, and United States Supreme Courts. He was on active duty in the United States Marine Corps from January 1971 to December of 1973 and upon his discharge he joined the New York Stock Exchange as an enforcement attorney, remaining in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Tauches is a colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. He served as assistant special counsel to the US Department of Justice. He was reactivated in December of 1990 with the 4th Marine Division and served as hearing officer in applications of conscientious objectors.

Tauches was also chairman of the New York National Victory Parade Coordinating Committee for the Marine Corps and various other assignments. He was again released from active duty in August of 1991. He was coordinator of Reserve Special Staff Office programs for the 1st Marine Corps District and was also interview officer for NROTC Scholarship. He also served on Congressman Ray McGrath's review panel for service academy applicants.

In 1976 Tauches joined the staff of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith as an investigative attorney and served in a number of management positions. He was appointed as the resident manager of the Jericho office in 1982. In March of 1986 he joined Independent Financial Services, Inc. as the resident manager of the Garden City office and a year later was appointed as the executive vice president and chief operating officer of Independent Financial Securities, Inc., which he helped form for the parent company. He became a principal of Financial Network Investment Corporation.

As a resident of Garden City he served as a member of Kiwanis in the Village, beginning in 1985. He was also an advisor to the Garden City High School Key Club from 1986 to 1988. He served as a member of the parents' committee of Cub Pack #56 at Community Church.

Residents, trustees, and Village staff had the opportunity to honor Frank Tauches and thank him for his years of service at last week's Testimonial Dinner. The dinner proved to be a night of celebrating the volunteerism in the western section of the Village as Tauches and his fellow former member of Village government, Eileen Collins, both former WPOA directors were recognized. Gifts and tributes were presented as friends and neighbors all spoke their gratitude for his volunteerism.
