Jean Calista Phinney 78, died on July 29, 1999 in Kittery, ME. She was born July 9, 1921 in Muskogee, OK. She was married to Gardner Augustus (Gus) Phinney on Jan. 9, 1943 in Colorado Springs. They lived for many years in Garden City. She worked at the Adelphi University School of Nursing. She was also a member of the Garden City Little Theatre for many years and served on the make-up, properties and set decoration committees. After the death of her husband, Jean made her home in Kittery. She is survived by her sons, David C. Phinney of Washington, DC, and Charles Phinney of Kittery, his wife Michele Solloway and her granddaughter Maria Calista Phinney. She is also survived by her siblings, Francis Kron and John Clugston of Salt Lake City, UT and Scott Clubston of Greeley, CO and their families. A memorial service was held on Aug. 15 in Kittery. Contributions in her name can be sent to The Harbourside Garden Club, c/o Carol Luning, 14 High Pasteur Rd., Kittery Point, ME 03905. Margaret E. O'Grady, of Garden City South, died on Aug. 1, 1999. Wife of the late Thomas. Mother of Kathleen Friedman (Andrew). She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia Matejovic and her son Thomas G. O'Grady. Grandmother of Stacy Matejovic. Sister of Rita Rogers. Aunt of Maureen Monaghan, Lori Resnick, John Conlon and Karen Rodin. Arrangements were made by the Charles J. O'Shea Funeral Home, Wantagh. Funeral Mass at St. Frances de Chantal RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery. Mary Nolan, of Garden City, died on Aug. 12, 1999. She was born in Allihies, County Cork, Ireland. Mother of Marion Burke, Joseph K. and the late John V. Grandmother of 10. Great-grandmother of 18. Sister of Eileen Hayes Sr., Agnes O'Sullivan and Margaret Gallagher. Arrangements were made by the Fairchild Chapel, Garden City. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph's RC Church. Interment St. Raymond's Cemetery. Gus Strobel, of Garden City, died on Aug. 17, 1999. Husband of the late Catherine. Father of Mary Gotthard and Harold Strobel. Father-in-law of Richard and Susan. Grandfather of eight. Great-grandfather of one. Arrangements were made by the Weigan Bros. Funeral Home, Williston Park. Religious service. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
