Town ZBA Hearing for Hilton Garden Inn Special Permit Postponed
Plans for the Roosevelt Raceway development fall under the classification of a "Planned Unit Development District" or PUD, and will go before the Town Board directly, with the exception of items in the plans which conflict with the Town's zoning codes, such as the plans for the Hilton Garden Inn by Westbury Hospitality, Inc., which have to go before the Town's Zoning Board of Appeals to allow them to construct the facility according to the proposals, which do not meet zoning code regulations. The hearing was scheduled for Aug. 18, but because a lead agency for environmental issue had not been determined in time, the Town granted an adjournment, making the new date in late September.
McCarthy Plans to Continue in Congress Until at Least 2002
Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy stated at her recent Editorial Board Meeting that if the voters in the 4th C.D. are willing, she'll continue to work for their interests in Congress until at least 2002. She added that in 2002 she'll take time to think about her goals and evaluate her options, but she noted that she has no plans to set up camp in the Oval Office. She does wish to continue her "commonsense approach" to problem-solving in government, and with that in mind, she discussed her current tax proposal.
Combined Team Takes Fifth Place at Tournament
Members of the Garden City Crusaders (boys U-11) along with their guests from the Garden City Tomahawks and Garden City Sting spent the Aug. 7 weekend doing what they like best¬playing soccer! Eight Crusaders were joined by five Tomahawks and a Sting for the 2-day tournament in Hershey, Pennsylvania. The boys, who had never played together as a team and had only two short practices before the tournament began, proved beyond a doubt that Garden City is a force to be reckoned with as they gave the more experienced U-12 competition a run for their money they won't soon forget!
