As you may know, the New Hyde Park Girls Lacrosse team won the New York State Large School Championship. I was fortunate and was in Cortland to witness the team's final victory. I have not stopped smiling since. But, there was another story out of the Cortland tournament that deserves just as much mention and praise.

As reported, the New Hyde Park girls team bus broke down while the team was out to dinner on Friday evening, the night before the final game. There was the potential for a logistical nightmare. But then the Garden City girls lacrosse team came to the rescue, providing their bus to transport our girls back to the hotel. Their generosity did not stop there.

The next day the Garden City lacrosse team played the early game and claimed the New York State Small School Championship in a hard fought, exciting game. Even as they celebrated victory, they did not forget their neighbor's transportation troubles. The Garden City girls postponed their celebration bus ride back to Long Island and stayed for the New Hyde Park game in order to offer our girls a ride home. They also loudly cheered for New Hyde Park throughout the final game.

As a New Hyde Park parent, I want to thank the Garden City Girls Lacrosse team for their kindness and support. It is good to know that in case of trouble there are neighbors you can depend on for help. The Garden City program has real class.
