The teachers from Lutheran Preschool of the Church of the Resurrection in Garden City, who were enjoying their summer vacation together, had finished their lunch at Lord & Taylor and were enjoying some shopping when all of the lights went out suddenly at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6. Small emergency lights went on indicating exit points and aiding in visibility to a degree, and, the teachers reported, the entire staff of the department store "appeared almost instantly on the scene" with flashlights. Garden City resident Brian Paradine is currently planning to challenge incumbent Vincent Muscarella for the Eighth Legislative District seat of the Nassau County Legislature. Running on the Democratic ticket, having been nominated last month, he said in an interview with Anton Community Newspapers that he sees the upcoming fall election as an "opportunity to address the serious problems the County has been facing." On Tuesday, July 20, the Recreation Department will hold a trip to the New York Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows for all five Village Playgrounds. Youngsters will have the opportunity to visit New York City's only "hands on" science and technology center.
