With the end of the school year, the five neighborhood playgrounds are again ready to provide you and your children with a summer full of fun activities and events.

For your enjoyment, these five playgrounds (Edgemere, Grove, Hemlock, Nassau Haven, Tullamore) are open and staffed seven days per week during the summer. Each playground has basketball and tennis courts, ballfield(s), play areas with swings, and other equipment, bathrooms, and a public phone.

The Playground directors at each park develop their own program of daily activities and events throughout the summer, and special events are also scheduled by the Recreation Department at each park.

Children who are interested in participating in the summer playground program should contact the park director at the playground nearest their home.

Remember the great days of childhood at the neighborhood playground? Remember the countless hours spent at the park? Have an interest in working with children?

If the answer to these is yes, then the Recreation Department is interested in you. The department will again sponsor the Leadership training program as part of the annual Recreation Activities Camp, which will be held on the grounds of St. Paul's from Aug. 16 to 20.

This training program will offer an opportunity to gain valuable-on-the job experience, while providing a chance to prove abilities to the Recreation Department.

There will be both a morning and an afternoon session, so there will be an opportunity for all local high school student athletes to participate. Those participating in the training program will be doing so on a volunteer basis.

Registration for those interested in participating in this program is now underway in the Recreation Office in Village Hall. Individuals registering must be entering at least their junior year in high school to participate in this training program.
