  • NEWS: School Board Gives Final Reading of Student Conduct and Discipline Policy

    The Board of Education has given the final reading of the deletion of Board policies related to student behavior and the penalties for inappropriate conduct and has replaced these 10 items with one all encompassing policy, Board Policy 5300: Student Conduct and Discipline. The final reading for the new policy was also presented before the public at the Board's last meeting. The issue of student conduct and methods for disciplining students have come under scrutiny across the nation as American schools attempt to contain the wave of copycat bomb threats that began following the Columbine High School shooting.   • NEWS: President Reaffirms Chamber's Hard Line Stand on Buffer Strip Plan

    Recently installed Chamber of Commerce President Bertram F. Donley (of Garden City Properties, Inc.) has issued a statement of firm support for the controversial Parking Buffer Strip Plan in a front page editorial in the most recent Business Bulletin from the Chamber. Entitled Where Do We Want to Be?, the piece defines the Chamber's role in the community as Donley sees it and discusses what Donley sees as critical for the future success of the downtown business area of the Village, specifically Franklin Avenue. Donley criticizes the Village and accuses those in opposition of the Plan of spreading misinformation. FULL STORY
