On behalf of 20,000 farm workers and service workers here in Suffolk county, it is my pleasure to extend our deepest thanks and appreciation to you and the entire congregation at St. Anne's for the food and clothing drive of these past few weeks. With housing costs alone using up 90 percent of expendable income in many households, the food and clothing we are able to extend as benefits to association members help keep people hanging on while we organize for solution to our economic and social problems.
In addition to the material help, it is a great boost to our members to see that people in more stable situations outside their communities understand their needs. This makes it easier for us to get people to keep trying, keep going, not give out and give in. As a result of this material and spiritual support, some of the people who receive help through these benefits will, in turn, bring others in to give and get help.
We at EFWA would like to especially thank Maureen Valente and family, Patricia Esculish, Bill Kelly and John Fay, who took the long drive to deliver the food, clothing and other supplies out to our office central in Bellport. You have truly made the world a more navigable place for many without their own transportation resources.
