On Saturday, May 8, the Tomahawks (boys U10 soccer) faced the previously unbeaten Floral Park Chiefs. The game was very spirited with the Tomahawks dominating the play for most of the game. After a couple of early near misses, the Tomahawks exerted more pressure on the Chiefs. About midway through the first half, the Tomahawks mounted an attack. Patrick Raymond took a shot which the goalkeeper couldn't handle; Raymond followed up and put the rebound into the goal. A breakaway by the Chiefs a few minutes later tied the score after a brilliantly executed pass and shot. It was one-one at half time. Shortly after the start of the second half, the Tomahawks continued to pressure the Chiefs and following a goal kick, Patrick Raymond forced a poor clearance by the defense. The ball went straight to Matt Colantonio who beat one player and hit an unstoppable shot to the top right corner of the net, making it 2-1 Tomahawks. Midway through the second half, more pressure brought a second goal when Jordan Ramsland hit home a shot from close range. Toward the end of the half, the Tomahawks completed the scoring. Matt Colantonio received the ball, beat one player, passed to Tom Holman who side-footed it home, left footed, past the groping goalkeeper. Although the Tomahawks dominated the play, there were a number of occasions when the Chiefs broke through and threatened. Drew Tice was outstanding in goal, showing great judgment as to when to come out and when to stay back. This was by far his best game since becoming the team's goalkeeper. Dean Gibbons played a solid game as back, as did half-backs Alex Buck, Danny Lisoski, and Erik Stumpf, while half-back Chris Agiato played a great game and showed a lot of speed. Kyle Walsh and James Rivoli were strong forwards, and with everyone playing as a team the results were well deserved and well earned. Final score: Tomahawks 3, Chiefs 1.
