The first decision made regarding the future of St. Paul's, which sparked all those that have come since, was officially made on June 5, 1997 when then Mayor Frank A. Tauches, Jr., and Trustees Judith A. Asselta, Harold P. Hecken, Jr., Robert H. Lewis, Peter A. Bee, Laurence J. Kettner, and Bruce A. Torino (Eileen J. Collins abstained) voted to approve a resolution to lease the main building and some surrounding land to CareMatrix to create an assisted living facility within the building. FULL STORY

The latest and certainly one of the more dramatic installments of the St. Paul's saga came last Thursday at the Village Board of Trustees' first May meeting when James M. Kenny of the infamous Kenny v. Incorporated Village of Garden City arose and delivered a speech on the merits of the suit and promised that this was the beginning of a publicity campagin about to be launched by the plaintiffs. Kenny's comments were delivered during the first citizens' comments portion of the meeting immediately following an Executive Session of the Board, during which, according to the mayor's comments upon their return, centered around the announcement by the appellate court that the case would have to go to trial. Garden City's Robert Reeves has been selected to play on the Long Island High School Athlete's for St. Mary's basketball team in the 1999 Benefit Basketball Game with the NY Jets. The game will be held on Saturday, May 8 at 4 p.m. at Nassau Community College and will raise much needed funds for the programs of St. Mary's Children and Family Services. FULL STORY
