Opinion

I am a non-instructional employee at Garden City High School. My position includes interacting with the students, teachers, administrators, custodians and clerical staff. It is an active position, including walking through the halls, the parking lot and the athletic fields each and every day full-time. It is a position that I work hard at, and one that I thoroughly enjoy. I look forward to coming to work every day. I am not alone -- most of the non-instructional staff feel the same about their jobs, working hard and making the environment pleasant with their courtesy and professionalism.

It would be nice if the Board of Education could recognize that this District works well because of the employees. It would also be nice if they would realize their employees, like the Board members, need to keep up with the cost of living on Long Island, i.e., taxes, college, car insurance, house and miscellaneous expenses.

With the millenium approaching, it would be nice if the Board of Education could be considerate, act in good faith and try to settle a fair contract with their employees.
