Health Awareness Week at the Middle School was filled with exciting and effective presentations that delivered powerful messages for 6th-, 7th- and 8th-graders. Celebrity appearances by The God Squad and Lara Spencer Channel 7 news anchor were met with overwhelming response from students.
Monsignor Tom Hartman and Rabbi Marc Gellman, aka "The God Squad," discussed a number of issues including: respect and tolerance of others, cheating and honesty and being healthy inside and out. The importance of values was a highlight of their presentation.
Lara Spencer spoke to the students about the highs and lows of her career. She emphasized that you must follow your dream and work hard in school. Lara's enthusiasm, energy and love for life was very clearly transmitted to students. One of her middle school teachers commented that her spirit and determination was evident as a student and has helped to shape her into a successful and vibrant young woman. The students asked many questions and each one was answered.
Madeline Cairns, assistant principal and Robyn Weiner, guidance counselor designed the week that included other topics such as sexual harassment, eye safety, SADD (Students Against Drunk Driving), head injury prevention and overall wellness.
The annual Health Awareness Week is a great experience for students as it focuses on issues that are extremely important in adolescent development.
