Attention School Teachers! Time is running out! Don't miss out on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Saratoga Tree Nursery's school seedling program.
Planting and caring for a seedling tree can help young people learn about the natural world and the value of trees in it. DEC's school seedling program provides New York State's school students with this experience.
All schools may participate. Planting can be related to a wide variety of scholastic programs. It is not confined to any given subject, purpose, or age level. School sponsored groups are also eligible.
Both pine and spruce species are available. Only one species may be ordered and 50 free seedlings of that species will be given to each participating school. An urban wildlife packet is available to those schools where planting space is limited.
Obtain an application from your Regional DEC office or call the NYS Nursery at (518) 587-1120. Application deadline is March 27. Trees will be sent to the participating schools during April and May.
A reminder to property owners and conservation groups. Do not forget to order your low cost seedlings for reforestation and conservation plantings. Call (518) 587-1120 for a brochure/price list or to place an order. The Long Island Shore Packet is still available (80 seedlings for $28). Seedlings are grown from New York State seed sources when possible.
