  • NEWS: Kordes and Garden City Hotel Present Heritage Tour Map

    Local historian and professional photographer John Ellis Kordes, was recently engaged by the Garden City Hotel, in addition to his "usual" photography work for the Hotel, to create a special Heritage Tour Map of the heart of the Incorporated Village of Garden City. Kordes commented in an interview with Garden City Life that the Garden City Hotel has been working to "embrace their heritage and this effort, which utilized my knowledge of the Village, is another example of that.   • NEWS: Late Season Snowstorm Closes Garden City Schools

    Five days before the official beginning of Spring (Saturday, March 20) school districts across Nassau County were scrambling early Monday morning, March 15, to get the word out that school would be closed because of a snowstorm which hit the area overnight. While meteorologists on local broadcasts were predicting that by Thursday, March 18 the weather would be at least 60 degrees Fahrenheit, residents in communities like Garden City were trying to clear their way to their cars in an attempt to make it to work on time. Employees of shops along Seventh Street, New Hyde Park Road, and Franklin Avenue could be seen shoveling the snow, which by 9:30 a.m. was already becoming a slushy mess. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Bolter Enjoying Successful Riding Career

    Portledge 10th-grader Margaret Beaumont Bolter of Garden City has been enjoying some recent victories in her chosen sport of horseback riding. In December 1998, Bolter was awarded the Year-End Overall Champion-Robert Hoskins Junior Medal by the Long Island High Score Award Association. This followed a year of consistent wins in the Hugh Cassidy Junior McClay Class, as well as the championship in the Children's Hunter Class Reserve at The Hampton Classic. FULL STORY
