Helen Louise Augustin Hiscock died on Feb. 28, 1999 at her home in Seattle, WA, where she moved a year and a half ago to be with her family on the west coast. She previously lived in Garden City for more than 65 years. She was a descendant of the earliest Dutch settlers in NY on her mother's side and, more recently, her family has been in Hicksville since 1860.

She graduated from Skidmore in 1929 and became active in the Girl Scouts in the '30s. In 1940 she joined the Motor Service of the American Red Cross and was county chairman for 20 years. She was a life member of AAUW which she joined in 1933 and was president of the American Legion Auxiliary nine times. She was also active in the University Club of LI and the Cathedral Guild. Although she never had any children she was "Aunt Helen" to generations of children who knew and loved her. She leaves behind six nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on March 12 at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, where she was confirmed and married, followed by burial at Plain Lawn Cemetery in Hicksville which her family started in 1860.
