The Men's Open Basketball Program at the middle school boys gymnasium will resume on Saturday, March 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program will not take place on Saturday, March 20. This program is open competitive play and teams are formed on a "pick up" basis.

An Evening of Mystery and Mayhem has been rescheduled to Friday, March 12 at 7 p.m. at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall.

Audience members can match their wits against a clever cast of characters, and prove if they have what it takes to be a sleuth. The Recreation Department has engaged the popular troupe Judy's Jubilee to present this evening of mystery and mahem. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and over the course of the next three hours, audience members will mix and mingle with the cast of characters who are involved in the fiendish plot to finish off a popular screenwriter. By interviewing suspects, comparing notes and clues, and carefully observing behavior, the audience will then be asked to solve the crime. The evening is sure to be filled with suspense, mystery and even a few surprises.

The cost of the evening of Mystery and Mayhem is priced at $30 per person, which includes a dinner catered by Hoffman's of Garden City. Advance reservations and payment are required for this popular show. To reserve tickets, please call the Recreation Office at 742-5800 during business hours by Wednesday, March 10.

On Saturday, March 20 at the Cultural and Performing Arts at Cluett Hall enjoy a carefree evening at our dinner dance, featuring the romantic sounds of the Village Music Makers.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m., dance and relax to the great music provided by Tom Wagner and the Village Music Makers. Then at 9 p.m., you'll enjoy a full sit-down dinner, served family style, complete with coffee and dessert, followed by more music and dancing. The whole package is available to you for just $20 per person, which includes sodas and snacks.

Advance reservations are a must for this popular program, and payment is required in advance. Reservations can be made by calling the Recreation Office at 742-5800 during business hours by Thursday, March 18.

On Sunday, March 7 residents are invited to enjoy an afternoon filled with the sights and sounds of the Petri School of Irish Dancing performed live on stage at the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall.

Beginning at 2 p.m., the dancers will perform Lord Thomond's Crown, and a selection of other dances, including an original piece performed to music from Lord of the Dance. After intermission, there will be an additional period of audience instruction and participation.

The Petri School of Irish Dancing is one of the leading Irish Dance Schools in the metropolitan area, and their troupe of over 300 dancers has performed at numerous venues, including the Rosie O'Donnell Show, Sesame Street, ABC News, and at Carnegie Hall.

Admission to the show will be $4 per person, which will include hot dogs, soda, and chips during intermission. Advance reservations are required for this show, and may be made by calling the Recreation Office at 742-5800 during business hours by Thursday, March 4.

For an evening of tennis fun, come down to one of the Recreation Department's Mixed Doubles Tennis Parties. The next party is scheduled for Saturday, March 6 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. The cost for the evening is $30 per couple, which includes 2 hours of court time, balls, round-robin play, snacks and refreshments. There is a limit of 12 couples, so sign up early.

The Recreation Department has announced that the final day for Pool Interviews will be Saturday, March 13.

Challenging, enjoyable positions are available at the Garden City Pool. Anyone who enjoys being outdoors, and is willing to make the commitment to a team that works hard to provide quality programs for the residents of Garden City, should consider contacting the Recreation Department. Competitive salaries, friendly working conditions, opportunity for advancement, and the chance to be part of a special team are offered.

High school juniors or older students who are ready to make a commitment for a great summer job should stop in the Recreation Office in Village Hall and pick up an application and schedule an appointment for an interview.

Reminder: Even if employed by the Recreation Department last year, all interested must re-apply and be interviewed for the coming summer. Only pool interviews will be conducted for the final time on Saturday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No interviews will be conducted without an appointment and no positions will be offered to applicants who do not interview.
