The Garden City Branch of the American Association of University Women has asked that the month of March be proclaimed as Women in History Month in Garden City.

This is a part of a nationwide celebration to focus attention on the rich and inspiring contributions to significant events made in the past and present by women of all ages, cultures and religions. The goal of the observance is consecutive and expansive social change through education.

The AAUW has worked for the advancement and equality of women since its founding in 1881. It has acted through research, support of legislation to end discrimination, encouragement of women's participation in public affairs and programs to educate women to deal more effectively with their own affairs.
