On Friday, Jan. 8 there will be a Recreation Night for all seventh grade students in the Village. The Recreation Night will take place in the St. Paul's Field House from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
Activities will include: ping pong, Nok Hockey, table golf, bumper pool among others. Music will be provided by a DJ. Admission to this Recreation Night is $4 payable at the door. Refreshments will be available at a nominal charge.
Parents Please Note: To avoid problems with youngsters roaming around outside rather than entering the building, we ask that parents wait until they see their children enter the building before driving away. Those inside will not be permitted to leave until 10 p.m. when the event over.
Additionally no one will be permitted to enter the building after 8:30 p.m. unless accompanied by a parent or guardian. Likewise, parents wishing to pick up their children early must do so in person.

If you've ever wanted to match your wits against a clever cast of characters, or wondered if you've got what it takes to be a top sleuth, then you're bound to enjoy our Evening of Mystery and Mayhem! On Saturday, Jan. 16 at the Cultural and Performing Art Center at Cluett Hall, you'll have your chance to help solve a tricky and mysterious murder, and enjoy a dinner, catered by Hoffman's of Garden City. We've engaged popular troupe "Judy's Jubilee" to present this evening of Mystery and Mayhem. We'll open the doors at 7 p.m., and over the course of the next three hours, you'll mix and mingle with the cast of characters who are involved in the fiendish plot to finish off a popular screenwriter. By interviewing suspects, comparing clues and notes and carefully observing behavior, you'll be asked to solve the crime. The evening is sure to be filled with suspense, mystery and even a few surprises.
The cost of this evening of Mystery and Mayhem is priced at $30 per person. Advance reservations and payments are required for this popular show. To reserve your tickets, please call the Recreation office at 742-5800 during business hours by Thursday, Jan. 14.
If you've ever had the hankerin' to try your hand (or feet) at some wild and wooly country style line dancin' and two steppin then this is the dance for you! We're presenting the fabulous Savannah Sky band for your enjoyment at our Country Jamboree!
On Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cluett Hall, Savannah Sky will perform the best and most danceable country sounds around. And to get you moving to the music, we'll even have country line dance instructors to help teach you those belt loop grabbin', foot loose country dances.
To make the evening completely carefree, your admission price of $20 per person will also include a country chicken and rib dinner, snacks and soda.

Please Note: This program is designed for adults 18 years of age and older to enjoy an evening of entertainment close to home. We respectfully require that residents not bring children to this program. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
Bring a smile to your preschoolers face as they complete their own arts and crafts project each week during this eight week program, conducted by Sandra Young. This program will be held in Cluett Hall, and there are still openings in the following classes Monday at 10:45 a.m., Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. Classes will begin the week of Jan. 11 and registration is under way now.
The following guidelines have been established for this program:
- There will be a maximum of 15 children per session.
- Children must be between the ages of 3 1/2 and 5 years old.
- Children must not be in kindergarten.
- Children must be toilet trained.
- Children must be able to stay in the room alone.

On Sunday afternoons beginning Jan. 17 from noon to 3:30 p.m. the St. Paul's Field House will be designated as "Family Open Gym Time" for Village children and their families. This open time provides the opportunity for you to enjoy various gym activities with your children, in an open and unstructured setting. Basketball, volleyball, dodge ball along with popular table games will be available for your use and recreation staff members will be on hand to help move things along.
Please Note: This time is designed for our residents to participate and use the Field House on a family and individual basis. Organized group practices and workouts are given scheduled time at other times during the week, and we respectfully ask that you abide by the operational guidelines for this "Family Open Gym Time".
It's not too early to start planning for a summer job with the Garden City Recreation Department.

No interviews will be conducted without an appointment and positions will not be offered to applicants who do not interview.

The Recreation Department has discounted tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters performance at the Nassau Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. Tickets which sell for $22 at the box office are discounted to $19. Tickets are available on a first come, first-serve basis at the Recreation Office in the Village Hall.

Garden City residents have been afforded the privilege of using Lake Cornelia (Hubbell's Pond) for ice skating. There will be skating only when the "Red Ball" is displayed. The Recreation Department urges residents not to use the Garden City Golf Club's driveway or parking lot which is restricted to club members.
When the "Red Ball" is displayed, skating hours are as follows:
Monday - Thursday: 1 - 8 p.m.; Friday: 1 - 9 p.m.
Saturday: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Sunday: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Rules and Regulations
- Skating will be permitted at all areas when the Recreation Supervisor is on duty.
- Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult after sundown.
- Fires will be built and controlled by the Recreation Supervisor.
- Ice Hockey may be played only in designated areas.
- Do not park in club's parking lot: this is restricted o club members only.
- When using Lake Cornelia please do not trespass over golf club fairways and greens as well as neighboring property along Rockaway Avenue.
- Please use the gate entrance provided along Stewart Avenue and keep within designated areas.
- Please do not telephone the golf club for ice skating information. Call the Recreation Program Line at 742-5888.
In addition to Lake Cornelia, the all-purpose areas at Grove and Nassau Haven playgrounds provide excellent skating facilities in your neighborhood. Skating is permitted in these areas when the "Red Ball" is displayed by the park entrance.
These playground skating areas are open from 10 a.m. until dark weekdays and Saturday, and from noon until 6 p.m. or dark whichever comes first on Sundays. Areas are supervised from 3 p.m. until dark weekdays, all day Saturday and Sunday when there is skating. Pre-school children must be accompanied by an adult.
Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. to noon have been set aside as "Hockey Only" time in the playgrounds. Hockey is not permitted in these areas unless approved by the Recreation Supervisor on duty, and never before 4 p.m. weekdays, nor between noon and 4 p.m. weekends.
