Hazel C. Smythe, a longtime resident and Garden City real estate broker, died on Dec. 21, 1998. Mrs. Smythe has been acknowledged as an outstanding business woman, known for her contributions to the Village of Garden City through her associations with the Garden City Chamber of Commerce. Widowed since 1974, she had been married for 35 years to Herbert Smythe who had operated Smyth Travel. Mrs. Smythe is survived by her daughters, Diana Whittaker (who continued to operate Smyth Travel following her father's death) and Maureen Ferri; her sister, Joyce Wood; and by her grandchildren, Charles Whittaker, Tina McHenry and Robert Wahisteen; as well as Charles, Jason, Michael, Katelynn and Christopher, her great-grandchildren. The family looks foward to welcoming her many longtime friends and associates at a special memorial service to be held for Mrs. Smythe on Jan. 23 at the Cathedral of the Incarnation at 10 a.m.
