  • NEWS: Master Plan Adopted

    Scott Howell of the Nassau County Planning Commission spoke with Garden City Life last week to answer questions about their official approval of the Nassau County Comprehensive Master Plan. The new County Charter mandated that a comprehensive plan be developed and adopted by the end of 1998. The plan distributed back in September is not precisely the same document that was approved in December; Howell explains that there were "slight changes" from the September document, but as only a handful of copies were made, they remain too scarce for review by the public.     As the governmental officials of the Village of Garden City and the Chamber of Commerce have been saying for the last year, at least, Franklin Avenue is one Main Street in America that may have faced great obstacles over the last decade or so, but through the commitment to the community by residents and merchants alike, the once termed Fifth Avenue of New York is awakening to a new age of success. Chris Werle, Ed Davis and Jeff Piciullo are working for the future of Franklin Avenue both as residents of the Village and as merchants, having recently opened their new enterprise, Waterzooi. Werle, Davis and Piciullo have chosen to share their love of fine food and ales with their neighbors and friends here in the village and to help attract consumers from around the island to come and sample the tastes of Belgian cuisine.   • SPORTS: Eric Lind Named 1998 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year

    Leading the way for the men of the Siena College's Saints Soccer Team, was senior Co-Captain Eric Lind of Garden City, who was named the 1998 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year. Lind posted a league-best goals against average of .93. In 17 games this year for the Saints, Lind gave up just 16 goals, while making 110 saves and recording seven shutouts. FULL STORY
