The Executive Board of Garden City Special Education last week mourned the loss of a very special person involved in the child advocacy for special education. Liliana Chiarello was a founding member of the Garden City chapter of SEPTA. She started her quest by ensuring that her own son's educational needs were being met and continued on to advocate for the educational rights of all children with special needs. She was also well known for her many trips to Albany and the New York State PTA conventions to make changes for special education. Liliana was always available to offer her advice and experience to all parents in order for them to make appropriate decisions in regard to their children's education.

I would like to express our deepest sympathy to the Chiarello family and our appreciation for all of her hard work that she has done for the benefit of special education.

Joan M. Barnes

SEPTA President
