The Girls Varsity Soccer Team had their biggest win of the season last Saturday, as they defeated top seeded Massapequa. Sophomore Bethany LeSueur scored on a cross from senior Alex Fiore for the game's only goal. LeSueur was relieved from her goal keeping duties, as junior Katie Houston made her return after a hip injury sidelined her for almost a month. Houston was sharp, making seven saves.
After a slow start and a devastating foot injury to their best defensive player, senior Katie Shaughnessy, the Lady Trojans have once again found themselves in contention for the county championship. With seniors Firoe, Eleanor Weille, Laura Segerdahl, Jen Keith, Ai Yasukawa and the possible return of Shaughnessy, Garden City could very well go all the way.
"I'm hoping to be back by the County semis," said an anxious Shaughnessy, who is also a two-time All-Class B player. "I'll still be in some pain, but there is no next year," she concluded.
