Railroad Parking Licenses for residents for the year 1998/99 are now being issued at the Village Office at a $25 fee. A photocopy of your registration must accompany your application and check. As the current permits will expire on Sept. 30, new licenses should be obtained prior to that date.

The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs, in cooperation with the Nassau County Medical Center, will again co-sponsor a free countywide, flu immunization program for senior citizens.

The immunization program for our area will be held at the Garden City Senior Recreation Center at 6 Golf Club Lane on Tuesday, Oct. 20 from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration for this program begins Monday, Sept. 21. Residents 60 years of age and older, who are interested in receiving the vaccine should call the Garden City Recreation Department at 742-5800 ext. 275 beginning Sept. 21 to make an appointment.

All motorists are reminded that all schools in Garden City are now open for the 1998-99 academic year. Hundreds of youngsters are walking to and from school, many for the first time. Please pay particular attention when driving in the area of recommended pedestrian routes and school yards, while the number of students who will be walking to school will be dramatically increased. This will not be any different than prior years in that a few preoccupied young people will inevitably dart out from in between parked cars or fail to look for oncoming traffic when crossing the street.

While the police and crossing guards are on duty at school crossing zones, many children will be crossing at unprotected areas. Parents are urged to discuss safe practices with their children and to remind them that it is very difficult for passing motorists to see them and effect a stop.

A reminder to motorists that the posted speed limit in the area of schools is 20 miles per hour.
