Most classes run 15 weeks and cost $60. Due to holiday and vacation schedules, some classes will run longer or shorter. An in-person registration will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 10:45 a.m. at Cluett Hall. If you have questions, please contact the Recreation Office at 742-5800, ext. 275.

The Nassau County Department of Health is again sponsoring a free breast cancer screening program. With the cooperation of the Village of Garden City and the Garden City Recreation, the County will provide a Mammography Van for this free screening in the Village Hall parking area on Monday, Sept. 28 and Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. You must come to Village Hall or call the Recreation Department at 742-5800, ext. 275 to schedule an appointment.
The purpose of bringing the van to our community is to reach women who might otherwise never have a mommogram. Priority will be given to women who are over age 50 and have never had a mammogram, have no health insurance and cannot travel to fixed facilities. Appointments can be given to women who are at least 40, who are not pregnant or nursing. If a woman does have insurance, the insurance company will be billed. Women with breast implants or problems should contact their physicians or the Nassau County Medical Center's Breast Imaging Center at 572-5781.
The mammography van is heated and air conditioned to ensure comfort. It is equipped with a reception and waiting area, a private mammography room with a state-of-the-art x-ray machine. This unit is registered with the New York State Department of Health and accredited by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
To schedule an appointment, please contact the Recreation Department at 742-5800, ext. 275 or come into Village Hall. A patient registration form must be filled out by Sept. 11. This form is available only at the Recreation Office. All health insurance information should be provided on this registration form.
If you schedule an appointment, you must fill out the patient registration form, which is available at the recreation office. On the day of your appointment, you must remember that you must not wear deodorant, lotion, perfume, or powder on your breasts or underarms. These products can affect mammography results. In addition, jewelry should not be worn around the neck and a separate top should be worn to make undressing easier. Please bring any required insurance information, your Medicare or Medicaid card, and also bring the name, address, and phone number of your private physician for notification of results. If you do not have a physician, you will be referred to the Nassau County Medical Center. Notification of results will be sent to you and the designated physician.
If you have any questions about this program, or if you would like to schedule an appointment, please come into Village Hall or call the recreation department at 742-5800, ext. 275.
