Now that another school year has come to an end in Garden City, the Recreation Department has begun their summer programs to keep kids busy. One of these popular Village programs is the Youth Tennis Camp. This nine week program is held at Community Park in the pool area and runs for two sessions per day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Interested residents can send their children for both sessions, and the kids will have one hour of pool time in between lessons. The Youth Tennis Program is designed for children ages 5 to 13.

There are five coaches in the program: Jo Appollonio, Rich Poidomani, Ria Kominos, Andrea Faustmann, and Director Laszlo Jurak. With approximately 24 students in each session, the student-to-teacher ratio is about 5 to 1. The sessions are divided by age. Younger children work primarily on drills and games, whereas the older children study strategies and also play games. While the children work in groups, there is also individual attention given while teaching the kids the finer points of tennis.

The remaining weeks of the camp are from Aug. 3-6, Aug. 10-13, Aug. 16-20, and Aug. 24-27. To find out more about this camp or any other one of the Recreation Department's programs, call 742-5800.
