(Ed.'s Note: The following letter was originally sent to Chamber President Marlene Knoth, and is printed at the author's request.)
Since the Gentlemen's Agreement, the Central Property Owners' Association (CPOA) has endeavored to represent the interests of those individuals residing and doing business in central Garden City. We are both pleased and proud to continue this tradition. Accordingly, you will find a contribution of $250 for the Chamber's Wonderful Wednesdays program. We sincerely hope that this program will succeed in helping restore Franklin Avenue to its former glory.
Historically, the CPOA and the Chamber have worked harmoniously and fruitfully to accomplish their common objectives. While we have not always agreed on every issue, the CPOA has always made the presumption that the Chamber has operated in good faith. Sadly, we believe that you should know that we unanimously expressed our strong disappointment and disapproval regarding the manner in which the "Rescheduling of the Spring Festival Poll" was conducted and the apparent manner in which the results of this poll were publicly portrayed. Reluctantly, we have had to draw the conclusion that the Chamber decided to pursue its own interests at the expense of its consitutents and the residents of Garden City.
Nonetheless, the CPOA will continue to work as closely with the Chamber as circumstances and issues allow. The CPOA Board wishes you every success with your Wonderful Wednesdays program.
Barbara K. Miller
CPOA President
