Those who still hadn't shaken the sleepy winter doldrums were awakened and energized as Rip Van Winkle could be heard in the heart of the Village. The Garden City Recreation Department began its summer concert series at the Gazebo on Village Green last Thursday, June 25 with a live show by The Devotions. Fans of this popular group came out with their friends and families with picnic blankets and lawn chairs while kids danced about the Green. Doo-wop and classic "good time oldies" from what fans might call the kinder, gentler days of rock and roll.

The little ones danced the night away on the Village Green.

Admission was free and thanks to the weather, it was a beautiful night for residents and their guests. Of course, should it rain on any of the concert nights, the Recreation Department will move the concert indoors to Cluett Hall, but residents will need to provide proof of residency to be admitted.
Tonight, Thursday, July 2, the concert series continues with The Great South Dixieland Band, led by Mike Carubia. The Village Green will be hopping with Dixie flavored swing tunes the whole family can appreciate. The show will start at 7:15 p.m. and the shows generally end at about 8:30 p.m. For further information about the concerts, call 742-5800, and for up-to-the-minute information on whether or not the shows will be moved because of the weather, call the Program Line at 742-5888.
