Reid Sclafani, business education teacher, and interested students attended a workshop in Hauppauge which was devoted to exploring options for careers in sports. There were speakers and demonstrations of "off-field" options, including some in the areas of fitness and sports: medicine, communications, entrepreneurships, officials, team/league management, and recreational facility management.

A physical therapist spoke about evaluation and treatment of injuries, possible places of employment, salaries and requirements. He also handed out a list of New York schools which have accredited programs; glossaries and reading lists were also distributed.

Most of the students were members of the sports marketing and entertainment course offered at the high school for the first time this year. All of the participants were quite aware of the many possibilities for pursuing sports-related careers at the end of this session.
