The spring festival continued to cause some debate at last Thursday's village board meeting.

Several trustees attempted to clarify the purpose of a poll conducted on the festival by the Garden City Chamber of Commerce.

"I asked the Chamber to find out the impact of the festival on businesses," Mayor Frank Tauches said. "We need to determine what the impact is on any businesses and the impact of closing the street at that time."

Tauches not only emphasized his positive opinion of the festival, but that the board has only received information, not made any decisions. "It's just a matter of what best serves the business community and the village and whatever organization is seeking to utilize the area," he said.

Trustee's Bruce Torino and Peter Bee agree with the mayor and voiced their opinion that the festival was very successful.

"But," Bee said, "Everyone who participated thought it would have been better on the original day. What we were studying was the impact of changing it to a rain date."

Agnes DiChiara, the person who conducted the poll, also attempted to clarify the issue.

"There was never any question about the event," she said. "Everyone there had a blast.

The survey was to find out about closing the street on a Friday."

DiChiara said that the survey included 53 businesses, and that all of their positive comments on the festival were included in the report.
