I thought the CBA Spring Festival, on May 15 to benefit SEPTA, on Seventh Street, was one of the most fun and well attended events we've had in town. Despite the original date being rained out, the hard work of a lot of people and businesses helped make it such a success. As a resident, and a business person, I was proud to be there and see such community spirit!
I saw a survey that was taken regarding the event which shocked and disappointed me. It surprises me to see that persons in this community that claim to be interested in promoting commerce and business, have such a negative attitude and such a lack of imagination, vision and common sense. Upon investigation, it seems that these people have been very busy with these negative and dispiriting campaigns. These select few in the established commerce organization actively shun and even intimidate any new people trying to participate in the promoting of our village and its commerce. This kind of "can't do" attitude is not productive. With today's economic pressures and the declining business and commerce in the Franklin Avenue area we surely need to do better.
Maybe it is time to eliminate this tired attitude and refresh the leadership of the business community. Positive thinking and actions, as we have seen, can do a lot of good for our community.
