The Cub Scouts of Garden City Pack #7, Bear Den #1, invited Charles Water's Hwang Karate Studio, in Williston Park to visit their group. Matthew Mezeul, of Garden City is a student at Water's Karate Studio and this was his Cub Scout group.
Matthew was the assistant instructor as Ms. Quintano, the head instructor of the school, taught the Scouts the benefits of the karate. Karate taught in the proper manner is a badge of honor. There are both physical and mental benefits, there is the physical development of coordination, body strength and reaction time; on the mental side there is goal setting, confidence and integrity. The true martial artist knows that she or he can defend him/herself, yet he/she avoids hurting others.
In addition t having fun, the Cub Scouts learned the basics of self-confidence and self defense on their own level.
We would like to thank Matthew Mezeul and Mrs. Mezeul for inviting us to their event. We would also like to thank all of the Cub Scouts who participated.
Mr. Water and the school's instructors teach classes to all age groups for free. This is one of the ways the school can give something back to the communities that have supported their efforts for the past 11 years. They have done workshops on topics such as: stranger danger, bully awareness, self-defense, goal training, the power of positive thinking and more. Please contact Cheryl Water for further information at 742-1770.
