Recently, the Village of Garden City declared the third week of July "Sports Congress Week" in honor of the World Sport Science Congress, an international symposium to be hosted by Adelphi University.
The announcement was made at Village Hall in Garden City with Garden City Mayor Frank A. Tauches, Village Administrator Robert L. Schoelle, Dean of the Adelphi School of Education Elaine Sands and Dr. Gary Barrette and Dr. Ronald Feingold, Adelphi professors and co-directors of Adelphi AIESP 1998, in attendance.
That evening at a reception at Adelphi's Alumni House to celebrate the coming of the conference, Dr. Gary Wadler, chair of the Nassau County Sports Commission, representing Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta, presented Dr. Feingold and Dr. Barrette with a county proclamation that declared July 13 - 17 "Sport Science Congress Week" for all of Nassau County.
Hosted by the Adelphi University department of health studies, physical education and human performance science, the World Sport Science Congress will be held at the university from July 13 - 17 and is sponsored by the Association Internationale des Ecoles Superieures d'Education Physique (AIESEP). Five hundred participants from 40 countries are expected to attend. This year's theme is "Education for Life" and will include sessions on sport science pedagogy, social and cultural perspectives, exercise science, equity and accessibility in sport and physical education and entrepreneurship.
