Commemorating Arbor Day (April 24), the Village of Garden City will join members of the Civic Beautification Committee in a ceremony scheduled for Thursday, April 30 at 1:45 p.m. with several classes from Locust Street School who will be planting seedlings in the park area at Brook and Grove Streets. A representative from the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will be in attendance to present the flag.

The Garden City Community Fund has asked that the month of May be proclaimed as Garden City Community Fund Month in Garden City --a request that I am pleased to implement.

For the past 40 years, solicitations by the Garden City Community Fund have been conducted by volunteers. This worthwhile group raises funds for selected charities and is wholly independent of United Way and all other community organizations. The charities are selected from those who apply by a Quota and Admissions Committee composed by local residents and must be involved in health, education, and service to those in need. They must also prove that the money they receive is spent prudently.

Continuing through May 19, the fund will conduct its annual phonathon.
