One of the sure signs of the arrival of Spring is the annual scramble to find goodies at the Recreation Department's Annual Easter Egg Hunt, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 11, beginning at 10 a.m..
Once again this year, the Easter Egg Hunt will be held at the St. Paul's Athletic Fields. This year there will be three hunts for the following age groups: pre-school through kindergarten; first and second graders; and third through fifth graders.
Children will be searching for all kinds of candy treats, as well as "Special Eggs" --which are redeemable for special prizes. There will also be a giant Easter basket awarded to the lucky child who finds the "Special Egg" marked #1.
Children should assemble behind the St. Paul's Field House for the start of the hunt. The Recreation Department asks all parents to observe the age groupings, which are designed to give all the children a fair opportunity to search for both candy and the prize eggs.
In the event of rain, the hunts will be held on Monday, April 13 at 10 a.m. In the event of uncertain weather, residents may call the Recreation Program Line at 742-5888, any time after 8:30 a.m. for the latest information.
Please Take Note: Due to the lost swim day on March 21, be aware that Adelphi has extended our Saturday morning children's swim program to April 11.
The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that it will again be conducting the Fleer Major League Baseball Skills Competition on Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. at Community Park Field #3. The Rain Date for this event will be Sunday, April 26.
The competition is open to all Village youngsters ages 7 to 14 years old. Youngsters will compete in three baseball skills areas: batting, fielding/throwing, and baserunning.
Detailed fliers will be distributed through the schools, and will also be available at the Five Village Playgrounds, Cluett Hall, and the Recreation Office in the Village Hall. Pre-registration is recommended and will take place at the Five Village Playgrounds and Cluett Hall until Thursday, April 16. Pre-registration at the Recreation Office will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 17.

With the Spring Sports Season fast approaching, the Recreation Department would like to remind all residents that preference is given to the Garden City Athletic Association, Garden City Centennials, and Garden City Rams for their league programs. When the fields are not in use by the youth organizations, the Recreation Department or a group holding a valid permit, these ball fields are then available for use by the residents.
Playability of the fields will be determined by the Recreation Department employee at the field.
On Wednesday, April 15 the Recreation Department will conduct a trip for students in Grades 6,7, and 8 to Adventureland Amusement Park in Farmingdale. The cost of the trip is $12, which includes: three hours of unlimited rides at Adventureland; bus transportation to and from the Garden City Railroad Station leaving at 11 a.m. and returning at 4 p.m.; and supervision which will be provided by members of the Recreation Staff.
