At a budget meeting held by the School Board on March 25, it became abundantly clear that some of our more erudite citizens who attend detect a certain lack of business acumen in our administration.

When the question of repairs to the middle school gymnasium was addressed, it was manifest that the insurance aspects of the matter may have been mishandled. It appeared that notice had not been furnished to the insurers and that no claim had as yet been filed.

Perhaps we need an advisory board to monitor our insurance problems. It should be noted, however, that one member of the school board indicated that the matter would be pressed.

Reciprocal insurance is fine and as indicated it saves money in premiums. However, if its coverage is less than would ordinarily be applicable, it may lose us money in the long-run.

Normally, coverage is of three types respecting property damage: basic, broad, and special. There is a world of difference between and among these three coverages. Which one do we have? Items that are covered under the special form are not covered under the basic and broad form. Items that are covered under the broad form are not covered under the basic form.

We constantly lose sight of the fact that the schools must be run as a business. The business aspects of the last bond issue were a fiasco.

Unless we tighten up our insurance procedures, we will visit the well again. Why not form an advisory committee for insurance?

The proposed changes in the bus schedule are raising hackles among the citizenry, especially when both parents work.

Why do the parents consider it the school's responsibility to take care of their problems? If it can be done without additional expense that is fine. However, when parents proclaim that their problems have to be solved even if we have to buy "six additional buses" that is a "bit much." All that the school is doing is adding to the school day to help their children. Perhaps, we should go back to letting the children walk longer distances before bus service is provided.

Please plan to come to budget meetings. This budget contains spending elements which should be curbed. Your help is needed to accomplish this end. I hope to see you at the high school cafeteria.
