Chair of the Nassau County Sports Commission Dr. Gary Wadler was the guest speaker at a recent Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting. Dr. Wadler spoke about the Goodwill Games and the Adelphi-AIESEP 1998 World Sport Science Congress, both of which will take place in and around Garden City this coming July. The Goodwill Games will commence on July 17,1998 and will be in progress for two consecutive weeks.
Dr. Wadler told the large crowd of business leaders and local merchants that approximately 1,300 of the world's best athletes from more than 60 countries will vie for more than $5 million in prize money and record performance incentives. "The Goodwill Games have refocused their mission," he stated, and added, "they have made a decision to have the Games benefit children and have achieved this goal by joining forces with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America."
Events scheduled for venues at the Eisenhower Park Swimming Facility, the Mitchel Field Complex, and the Nassau Coliseum, include figure skating, soccer, track and field, swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming. Dr. Wadler noted that the public can find more information on the Nassau County Sports Commission website at www.nassausports.org.
