The Garden City Recreation Dance Ensemble held their latest show, Change of Perspective, at Adelphi University's Olmsted Theater from Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 15, with four well-attended and well-received performances. Artistic Director Jean Marie Philippou led the dancers in their fourth performance season. The program was divided into three parts, New Millenium Woman, Some International Flavor, and Socially Speaking.

The first piece, Nightclubbing, title song by Iggy Pop, was choreographed by Jacqueline Collins and Jennifer Joyce and featured dancers Shannon Grimes, Tara Mullins, Delia Sweeney, Kathryn Lindsay, and Danielle Lizardos. Army of Me , title song by Bjork, was choreographed by Jacqueline Collins and featured dance soloist Kristen Nelson with the ensemble dancers. You Make Me Feel, title song by Aretha Franklin, was choreographed by Jennifer Joyce and featured soloist dancer Kathryn Lindsay. Working Girls, title song Respect, by Aretha Franklin, was performed by the ensemble.

The program moved into its international dance explorations with Out of Africa which was choreographed by Jennifer Gigante with music by Michael Quarrels and an opening solo performance by Jennifer Gigante. Oye Como Va was choreographed by Jean Marie Philippou and the title song is by Santana. Cara Di Paola, Jacqueline Collins, and Jennifer Gigante performed this piece. Willamania was choreographed by Danielle Lizardos and Jacquelline Collins and featured soloist Danielle Lizardos and the dance ensemble. You Can Can-Can Too! was choreographed by Jean Marie Philippou and featured Stacie Glorioso, Christine Randazzo, and Delia Sweeney, with the ensemble dancers.

The program then moved into its more experimental dance phase with Calling All Angels, a unique combination of ballet and modern dance influences which was choreographed by Jennifer Joyce. ...after the abuse... was a stirring piece choreographed by Jean Marie Philippou was performed to She Talks to Angels by The Black Crows and featured Jacqueline Collins as the "abused" and Kristen Nelson as the featured angel. The show concluded with the intruiging piece Jungleland, title song by Bruce Springstein, choreographed by Jacqueline Collins and Jean Marie Philippou which featured opening soloist Tara Mullins, then transformed into a duet featuring Mullins and Shannon Grimes. The piece also showcased a duet with guest performer Brett Garfunkel and Kathryn Lindsay and a solo by Garfunkel. The ensemble dancers sported jeans and tank tops and sundresses for this unique contemporary piece with an edge.

The audiences all demonstrated their heartfelt love of the performances during the curtain call as cheers and rounds of applause met each dancer as he or she ran onto the stage to take a bow. Bouquets of flowers met the dancers as they emerged from backstage after the show as proud parents, dance lovers, and friends shared their positive reviews with the performers.
