Anne M. De Simone, formerly of Garden City, died on Jan. 18, 1998. Wife of Joseph F. Mother of Paula De Simone Watson, Philip De Simone and the late Joseph F. De Simone Jr. Mother-in-law of William D. Watson and Maureen De Simone. Grandmother of Joseph and Jennifer De Simone and Lucia and Elizabeth Watson. Sister of John Mikasa. Dorothy Marie Norwood, of Stewart Manor, died on Jan. 21, 1998. Wife of the late James C. Sr. Mother of James C. Jr., Janice E. Becker, Jane M. Kusiak, the late Joan C. Beck and the late Dorothy Jean Norwood. Sister of Joan Kelser and George Knorr. Grandmother of nine. Arrangements were made by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne's RC Church. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery.
Dr. Joseph Penola Jr. died on Jan. 14, 1998 when his car veered off the road and struck a tree in Smoke Rise. Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of Joseph A. and Winifred Penola of Garden City, who owned and operated the Garden City Shoe Shop on 7th Street from 1952 to 1971. Dr. Penola operated the store following his father's death in 1968.
Dr. Penola was a 1965 graduate of the Waldorf School. He attended Adelphi University and graduated from Southampton College and New York Chiropractic College. He owned and operated the Riverdale Wellness Center and was a member of Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church in Randolph, the Rotary Club and the Kinnelon-Bulter Optimist Club. Dr. Penola was active in many charitable causes and fundraisers including collective toys for needy children at Christmas.
He is survived by his wife Diane (Sckutzko); his children Joseph, John, James and Jane; and his sister Claudia Palladino of Garden City. Arrangements were made by the Richards Funeral home, Riverdale. Services were held at the Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Church. Interment Our Lady of Magnificat Cemetery, Kinnelon.
