The Chamber of Commerce's Project Garden City has already begun to plan for the 1998 Summer Season of entertainment.
The revitalization of Franklin Avenue has been the focus of the committee who say that they now see the hiring of a consultant by the Village Board of Trustees to plan the beautfication of the Avenue as one of many signs that revitalization is truly under way. Project Chairman Jerry Unger of Printing X-Press has already put out a call to all members of the Chamber of Commerce to get their pledges or checks in by Feb. 15, 1998 in order for the committee to begin to plan its budget.
As was the case last year, all participants in the Fridays on Franklin Concerts will be recognized in Garden City Life, ads, radio commercials, window signs throughout the Village, and announcements from the bandstand. Those whocontribute significantly to the cause put up banners at the actual concert site for attendees and passers-by to view and can distribute promotional items such as totes and balloons as were given out last summer. The varying levels of contributions are:
- 1) Endower -- $5,000;
- 2) Grantor -- $3,000;
- 3) Benefactor -- $2,000;
- 4) Patron -- $1,000;
- 5) Sustaining -- $500;
- 6) Supporter -- $300;
- 7) Friend -- $100.
The concerts will be expanded this year to include art exhibits, antique shows, and floral displays. The concerts will again be presented with the cooperation and assistance of the Nassau County Department of Cultural Development. The entertainment will begin in June of 1998.
