His subjects are awkwardly trapped in their pictoral space, often seeming as much like social evidence as actual people. Sometimes an element of distrust pervades the work reminding the viewer of the brutal and predatory threats that all children face. While never commenting directly on the social issues that affect the well-being of the children, Mr. Lopez explores issues of partriachy and power in these strangely sad photographs) and Sandra N. Carrion (photographs her students allowing their individual personalities to ignite symbolism that pushes these photographs toward pure fantasy. She creates a new set of young gods. Her photographic fantasies are a celebration of youth where vulnerability and power are equal forces in the forging of new myths). On view through Jan. 30.
