  • Cartoons go to College, a delightful showing of cartoons, editorials, sports and political satires by regional and nationally famous cartoonists. through Dec. 20. Exhibition at the Firehouse Art Gallery, Nassau Community College, One Education Dr. Free and open to the public. The following free forums (open to the public) will be held in conjunction with the exhibit:

    Artists' reception and panel discussion. An enlightening exchange with members of the National Cartoon Society. Included will be some of America's most renowned illustrators, who will share with us their unique experiences in this unique field. The reception follows immediately along with a cartoon raffle and an autograph session. Dec. 7 from noon to 3 p.m.

    Gallery director Janet Marzo will host a walking tour of the current exhibition. Included will be information on the exhibiting artists as well as interesting tidbits on the cartoon characters and the art itself. Dec. 11 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

  • Cubist Visionary Retrospective, an exhibition of the modern American geometric painter Kenneth Stubbs, whose particular vision focused on the analysis and composition of the figure and landscape and the translation of the flat patterns and abstract shapes found in nature. His goal in painting was to present an element of movement into cubism without compromising its principles. On view through Dec. 19 at the Emily Lowe Gallery, South Campus, Hofstra University.   • Jewish Heritage: A Persian Collection, an exploration into the tradition of Judaica as reflected in the Persian wood carving of the 20th century. Torah covers and wood plaques wil be on display, reflecting the long and still developing history of Judaism. An artistic expression of faith and the endurance of that faith. On display through Jan. 18 in the David Filderman Gallery, 9th floor, Joan and Donald E. Axinn Library, South Campus. Epilepsy Support Group

The Epilepsy Foundation of LI announces the formation of a new support group for adults with epilepsy and their significant others. The group will take place on Tuesday evenings from 8 to 9 p.m. at the foundation headquarters, 550 Stewart Ave., 3rd floor. Come meet others who share your concerns. Volunteers Needed by the Epilepsy Foundation

Volunteers are needed to help dispel some of the myths and misconceptions that still surround epilepsy by performing a puppet show in area elementary schools. The "Kids on the Block," a troupe of life-size abled and disabled puppets are used. If you have two hours a week for four weeks and can commit to one performance a month, you will be trained in the art of Bunraku or Japanese Puppetry. Gala New Year's Eve Party

Corpus Christi Parish is having a gala New Year's Eve party in Fitzgerald Hall, Garfield Ave., Mineola from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Dec. 31. There will be plenty of dining, dancing and of course that special toast for the New Year! Catering is by J.B.'s Pub of Mineola. Features an open bar and an individual platter of "table tasties" to start the evening, followed by a delicious buffet dinner with an individual carving station, champagne toast, dessert and coffee. AHRC Greenhouse Holiday Sale
