The Mallette Art Gallery Presents The Bowery Gallery

The Mallette Art Gallery of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Central Nassau is pleased to present artists from The Bowery Gallery. The show consists of small works and will be on display from Nov. 23 until Dec. 19.

Works in a variety of media, both representational and non-objective, by artists of The Bowery Gallery, Soho, NY, will be on view. A reception for the artists will be held Sunday, Nov. 23 from 1-3 p.m.

Founded in 1969 by a group of artists concerned with tradition, formal issues, and standards of excellence, The Bowery Gallery continues to provide a venue for its artists to pursue works, often, outside mainstream. Founding artists were representational at a time when abstract art was the significant art form. The Gallery has evolved to withstand changing trends and its members remain committed to modernist precedents. The articulation of a visual language through formal means, whether representational, or non-objective, is the prevailing criterion of Bowery artists.

Widely respected, Bowery Gallery artists play a vital role in the cultural life of NYC. Gallery artists are also scholars, teachers, lecturers, writers, and critics. Each has garnered numerous awards, shown in galleries, universities, and museums across the country and have reviewed in major publications. Their work is in collections throughout the United States.

Bowery Gallery artists: Martha Armstrong, Rita Baragona, Temma Bell, Diana Cabouli, Richard Castellana, Brian Chu, Jane Culp, Esti Dunow, John Goodrich, Barbara Goodstein, Barbara Grossman, Ben Huberman, Deborah Kahn, Richard LaPresti, Stanley Lewis, Dik Liu, Patti McManus, Ruth Miller, Naomi Nemtzow, Gary Niswonger, Marilyn Palmeri, Hearne Pardee, Marie Roberts, Deborah Rosenthal, Marylou Schuck, June Silverberg, Kyle Staver, Walter Strach, Ian Tornay, Norman Turner, and Carolyn Virgil.

Following the reception on Nov. 23, there will be a music program of Fauré, Mozart, and Adolphe featuring Leona Perlman.

Exhibitions at the Mallette Gallery are curated by Theresa Bartol.

Gallery hours are 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sundays. Appointments can be made by calling 248-8855.

The Mallette Gallery is located in the Unitarian Universalist Church at 223 Stewart Avenue in Garden City.
