Charles Lemiszki, of Teaneck, NJ, formerly of Floral Park, died on July 20, 2009. Life partner of Roy Kean. Beloved son of Peter and the late Marie. Dear brother of William, Donna Lemiszki-Conte and Peter John. Loving uncle of Gina and Michael Conte, Matthew Lemiszki, Alex and Peter Lemiszki. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Funeral Mass was held on July 25 at Holy Spirit RC Church.
At 92, Marion “Tess” Teslik was an independent, quick-witted, working woman with a flair for fashion.
Growing up in Jamaica, Queens, Ms. Teslik attended finishing school after her high school days and later enrolled at Fordham University.
She attended three years of college before meeting her husband, Alexander, Jr., while on a train traveling between New York and Connecticut. They later married and Ms. Teslik, an only child, went on to have three children, Alexander, Steven and Melanie.
Richard Kozel, of Floral Park, died on June 24, 2009. Husband of Margaret. Father of Carole Bane (Sam) and Judy Shaughnessy (Bernie). Grandfather of Bryan, Steven, Katie, Christy and Laurie. Great-grandfather of Tyler, Dylan, John, Julie, Norton, Ashton and Austen. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Religious service held June 27 at the funeral home. Interment All Faiths Cemetery.
James F. Gundersen, of Southold, passed away on June 18, 2009, while surrounded by family and friends. He was 61 years old.
Jim was born in Floral Park on Nov. 14, 1947 to Francis J. Gundersen and Natalie Shields Gundersen. He attended St. Paul’s School in Garden City and graduated in 1966. He attended Long Island University at Southampton, where he was an active brother of Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity, and met his future wife Emily Shan. After graduating in 1970, the couple married on Sept. 5 in Williston Park.
Ruth Sabarese Knudson, 81, of Bradenton Beach, FL, passed away at home on April 29, 2009. She had been a long-time resident of Floral Park and Jamesport, LI, until moving permanently to Florida in 1999.
Ruth was born in Elmhurst on April 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Elsie and Anthony Sabarese. She worked in accounting for J. Walter Thompson Advertising in Manhattan. She was preceded in death in 2003 by her husband of 49 years William K. Knudson. Survivors include her beloved son Robert of Tampa, FL; brother Dwight Sabarese; and a niece. Ruth will be missed deeply by everyone.
A memorial service was held on May 17 at Roser Memorial Community Chapel in Anna Maria, FL. Margaret A. (Rauso) Savino, 78, of Falmouth, MA, and Naples, FL, and formerly of Floral Park, died at home surrounded by her family on April 25, 2009 after a year-long battle with brain cancer. She was the loving wife of Alessio Savino who was her constant companion for 57 years and her fearless caregiver throughout her illness.
Margaret was born and raised in Brooklyn and lived many years in Floral Park where she raised her family and worked as a credit manager.
In 1992 she retired along with her husband and they moved to Falmouth, MA, to be close to family. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, bridge, playing dominos, and swimming at Old Silver Beach, but mostly she enjoyed being a mom and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Joan Martinage and husband Tim of East Falmouth, Thomas Savino and wife Tammy of Waterford, NY, Alison Galante and husband Jim of Englewood, NJ, and Kenneth Savino and wife Ann of Milton; grandchildren, Amanda and Gregory Martinage, Cristopher, Matthew and Maria Savino and John and Amy Savino; brothers, Pasquale Rauso of Texas and Salvatore Rauso of New Jersey; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by numerous friends who supported her and lifted her spirits by kind gestures too numerous to mention.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on May 2 at St. Elizabeth Seton Church, N. Falmouth. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Seton Church, P.O. Box 861, N. Falmouth, MA 02556 and Falmouth Service Center, P.O. Box 208, Falmouth, MA 02541.
Robert Cantrell, 85, died on May 1, 2009. He was a WWII Navy veteran, 1st class petty officer. Husband of the late Norma. Father of Virginia Misa and Lisa Cantrell. Grandfather of Frank, Greg, Melissa and Nicholas. Brother of Taylor, Claudine, Lois and the late Conard, H.K. and June. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, New Hyde Park. Religious service was held May 5 at the funeral home. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.
