Mr. Clemens was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving in WWII. He moved to Leesburg in 1996 from Floral Park, where he worked in transportation logistics for Texas Transport (3T’s), Conboy Trucking and Associated Transport. He served as a Republican Committee member for 19 years in Floral Park, was a member and former two-term Governor of the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City and member of the American Legion. He was active in the “Plantation at Leesburg” after retiring there and member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Owner and breeder Edward P. Evans, who campaigned dozens of stakes winners in New York through the years, including 2010 Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap and Grade 1 Woodward winner Quality Road, died Dec.31 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. He was 68.
Elmont native and Garden City resident, Paul J. Muscarella, a respected local attorney, died Oct. 11, 2010 of a malignant brain tumor. He was 47.
Best defined by his love of family, community and tradition, Paul is survived by his wife, Lori, and their four children, Jenna 15, Natalie 14, Matthew 12 and Diana 8.
Rita E. Heller (Vishner) passed away unexpectedly on August 28, 2010. Together with Robert Heller, Rita has six children whom she was extremely proud of: Bobby and Pat, Lori and Jerry Sutherland, Ronnie and Heidi, Lynda and Eric Wagner, Michael and Diane, Randi and Ronny Caputo. Rita leaves behind fond memories to her 14 grandchildren: Thomas, Matthew, Alex, Brandon, Zack, Hollyann, Hailey, Samantha, Owen, Jake, Hannah, Emily, Mikey, and Jayme.
Sidney Brown, age 90, died at home on June 3, 2010 in Santee after a brief illness. He is remembered by friends and family as a fun-loving and friendly guy. Most important, he was respected for his compassion for those in need.
Mary Theresa McCaffrey (nee Heffernan), of Brooksville, FL, formerly of Floral Park, died on May 15, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband Charles R.; children, Mary Beth Bratton (William), Kathleen Ulmer (Everett), Donna Marie (deceased), Charles R. Jr. (Linda), Celeste E. Landri (Pat), Patrice M. DeStefano, John Kevin (Trish) and Regina G. Trainor (Jeffrey); 23 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also, her sister Catherine Sheppard of Brooksville, FL, and brother Patrick J. Heffernan of Glen Cove.
