Brother John (Jack) Moylan died on July 27. Son of the late John and Mary (Hanney), he is survived by his sister Regina and nephews Dennis Dowd and John Duffe. He was raised in Floral Park and attended St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset. After becoming a Franciscan Brother in 1958 he taught in various schools and then in 1979 began his ministry in the Diocese of Rockville Centre to the incarcerated, their families and formerly incarcerated persons. Reposing was held at the Montfort Retreat Center in Bay Shore with a mass and burial at Holy Rood in Westbury.
Robert Balconis, 62, of Floral Park, died on July 27. He was a fun-loving extrovert. Bob was well-read, interesting and very funny. He is survived by his mother, Theresa, his sister Christine, his uncle Rev. Joseph Kozlowski, Uncle Richard Balconis (Anastasia) and Uncle Eugene Grabowski. He was very close to his cousins and loved their company. Services were held at New Hyde Park Funeral Home. A Christian mass and burial was held at St. Hedwig’s in Floral Park, with interment at St. Johns Cemetery in Middle Village.
Dorian Westerman Hedgepath, 57, of Delray Beach, passed away suddenly on July 17 and went to be with the Lord. Dorian was a Palm Beach County Library employee for 13 years. She had a love for Jesus, her family and all God’s creatures. Dorian was predeceased in death by her parents, Frederick and Anne Westerman; brother-in-law, King McElwaney. DiMaggio, Dominick J., of Floral Park, died on July 20. DiMaggio was a 31-year veteran of Nassau County Police Department and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. Hesketh, Barbara Anne, passed away on June 24 from cancer. Barbara graduated from Sewanhaka High School. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Al Hesketh. They lived in North Babylon, where they were active in the Great South Bay (GSB) Power Squadron. She is survived by three children; Katherine Williamson; Lisa Huppert; and Robert Hesketh. Ruth Naomi Honig, 86 of Floral Park resident, died on May 11 in Virginia Beach, VA after a brief illness. Ruth was the devoted wife of Dr. Klaas P. Honig, who predeceased her in 2011. She was the second child of Elsie and Marcus Quarum, born in Grand Forks, ND and raised in Fergus Falls, MN. After receiving her nursing degree from Concordia College, she worked as the head nurse of the neurology unit at Cook County Hospital in Chicago where she met her future husband.
After relocating to New York, she worked as her husband’s office manager and nurse until their retirement. Ruth enjoyed reading, opera, keeping up on current events, spoiling her grandchildren, and volunteering.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Peter Honig of Philadephia, PA, Dr. Mark Honig of Virginia Beach, VA and Janna Torelli of Wayzata, MN, and seven grandchildren. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Southold Free Library.
Richard Bomze has passed away at age 76. His love for the racing industry is legendary and his contributions far-reaching. Richard was a founding member of the Belmont Child Care Association, and former board member.
He was owner and president of Star Sports Corp., which published American Turf Monthly. He was also a past president of the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association. He is survived by his wife, Diane, daughters Dana and Jennifer, a sister, Sandra, a brother, Edward, and four grandchildren.
