Mary Sikes, of Floral Park, died on Feb. 22. Beloved wife of the late Barton. Loving mother of Thomas and his late wife Charlotte, Richard and his wife Geraldine. Cherished grandmother of Christopher, Karen, Richard and John, and great-grandmother of Christopher, Julia, Jack and Madison. Services were held at New Hyde Park Funeal Home. Mass was held at St. Hedwig’s RC Church in Floral Park, with interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
Gary Menkel, 92, of Floral Park has died. Beloved father of Robert and Carrie. Predeceased by loving wife of 65 years, Margot, father-in-law of Robert Meadow and Maureen O’Hara, grandfather of Jacqueline and Nicole and companion of Eva Englander. Engineer, designer, painter, music lover, and maker and fixer of everything, refugee from German Holocaust.
Kathleen McKenna, 86, a long time Floral Park resident, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 15. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alvin McKenna, her son Bruce and daughter-in-law Catherine, two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Services were held at Dillon & Smith Funeral Service of Sand Springs, OK.
Joan F. Cokelet, 80, formerly of Galway, NY, passed away on Feb. 23, at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Cokelet was born on July 19, 1933 in Floral Park, daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Trainor. She is the widow of Ronald W. Cokelet Sr. Survivors include her children, Maria (James) Wojna of Concord, CA, and their children, Sarah and Alisha; Constance Stockwicz of Clifton Park and her children, Michael, Chelsea and Paul, Jr.; Christina (Timothy) Garland of Ballston Spa and their children, Sean, Jonathan and Patrick; and Michele (Richard) Mone of Stillwater and their children Brandon, Kyle and Ashley. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son, Ronald W. Cokelet Jr., and her siblings, Thomas and James. Services were held on Feb. 26 at Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes in Mechanicville, NY. Funeral Mass was held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, in Hagaman, NY, with interment at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Hagaman.
Thomas Catalano, of Floral Park, died on Feb. 14. Beloved husband of Peggy. Devoted father of Christopher, Patricia and Michael. Loving son of Marjory and Thomas. Dear brother of Karen and Joseph. Patricia DiGuiseppe (nee Barbarito), 58, of Floral Park, died on Feb. 20. Loved by companion Gene Paternoster; daughter Melissa; grandsons Isaiah and Mathew. Sister of Irene, Deborah (James) and Barbara (Daniel). Aunt of Thomas (Gina), Lee, David and Jennifer. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, March 1 at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory RC Church in Floral Park.
Daniel P. Kelly of Hampton Bays and Floral Park died on Feb. 3. Beloved husband of Carol. Loving father of Jacqueline (Louie), Daniel, Meredith (Tom). Dear brother of Michael, Margaret, Ann, Patricia, Mary Ellen, John, Patrick and the late Joseph. Cherished grandfather of Annamaria, Saverio, Marisa, Robert, Thomas and Matthew. John J. Bennett, 79, of Westhampton Beach, NY, passed away on Feb. 11. Bennett was the beloved husband of the late Hannah (Joan) and loving father of Sean Bennett. A Navy veteran and 30-year resident of Floral Park. Bennett worked at Consolidated Edison for 42 years and enjoyed fishing and old Western movies. In addition to his son, Sean, Bennett is survived by his daughter-in-law, Constance; his grandchildren, Harrison and Georgia; his sister, Mary and his brothers Arthur and William. He is predeceased by his brother, Thomas. Visitation was held on Feb. 14 at Follett & Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. Funeral mass was held on Feb. 15 at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Westhampton Beach. Internment was held at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.
Ruth Martin Heidtmann, 97, of Southold, died peacefully in her home on Jan. 13.
She was born Oct. 12, 1916, in Brooklyn to John and Minnie Martin. When Ruth was five, the family moved to Floral Park where she attended John Lewis Childs Elementary School and Sewanhaka High School. She worked for J.C.Penney in New York City until her marriage to Henry G. Heidtmann in 1935.
Together they raised four children and were members of Floral Park United Methodist Church, Brookville Country Club, Garden City Country Club and Ruth was a lifelong member of the Floral Park Chapter #726 Order of the Eastern Star.
Theresa H. Moscato, 89, originally from Brooklyn, died on Dec. 11. Funeral mass was held on Dec. 16 at St. Gregory The Great R.C. Church with interment at Calverton National Cemetery.
