Obituary: Robert J. Valli, 76

Robert “Bob” Valli died May 30, at his home in New Hyde Park, after a three-year battle with brain cancer. He was 76. Valli was the consummate gentlemen, an accomplished businessman and enthusiastic volunteer.  He will be remembered by family and friends as an avid golfer, fitness enthusiast, tri-athlete, sailor, and most of all a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.  

Veteran South Floral Park FD Ex-Chief Godfrey Passes On

After a lengthy illness, Ex-Chief G. Michael Godfrey of the South Floral Park Fire Department passed on July 12. Ex-Chief Godfrey was a volunteer firefighter for over 35 years, of which seven of those years he served as chief.

Obituary: Donald J. Feehan

Donald J. Feehan, a resident of Sun City Center, FL, and Sag Harbor, NY, passed away peacefully at Hospice House, Sun City Center, FL, on June 14, 2012. Donald, born in Jamaica, NY, on Oct. 5, 1930, was one of three sons of Joseph and Alice Blauvelt Feehan. He attended Bishop Loughlin High School, graduating from New York University. Donald married Patricia M. Murphy of Floral Park and they were the parents of four children, Mary Anne Blamey, Peter Feehan, John Feehan and Timothy Feehan. Professionally, Don worked as a banker and then village clerk for Floral Park and Old Westbury.

Obituary: Adele Johnston

Adele Johnston, of Floral Park, died on June 2, 2012. Beloved wife of Martin B. Johnston. Devoted mother of Irene A. Mueller (George), Martin W., Mary E., Frances E. Rothe, Stephen F. (Kim). Cherished grandmother of Dorothy K. Johnston. The family was cared for by the Thomas F. Dalton Funeral Home, Floral Park. Funeral Mass was held June 6 at St. Hedwig’s RC Church. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.

Obituary: Paul Pugliese

A memorial mass will be held in honor of Paul J. Pugliese, on Saturday, May 26, at St. Catherine of Sienna, 33 New Hyde Park Rd., Franklin Square, at 2:30 p.m.

Paul was a former Floral Park resident and a graduate of Floral Park Memorial High School, class of 1976. He was an employee of the Town of Hempstead Parks Department and passed away suddenly on January 24. He was 53 years old.

Obituary: Thoroughbred Owner Herbert Schwartz Dead At 80

Thoroughbred owner Herbert T. Schwartz, who bred and owned two-time New York-bred champion filly Critical Eye, died Thursday of natural causes at his home in Woodmere, NY, said his son, trainer Scott Schwartz.

He was 80.

Obituary: Helen E. Kruger

Helen E. Kruger, of Greenport, NY, and originally of Floral Park, passed away on March 3, 2012. She was 94 years old and a resident of Peconic Landing retirement community for nearly 10 years. Prior to living in Greenport, Helen lived in Mattituck, NY, and was an active member of the Episcopal Church due to her appreciation of Father Jim, but Helen was a practicing Quaker most of her life.

Obituary: Rudolf H. Hertz

Rudolf H. Hertz, 94, of Floral Park, died on Dec. 23, 2011. Son of the late Paul and Helene Hertz. Husband of the late Margaret S. Hertz. Father of Michael F. Hertz (Ronnie L. Edelman) and Shelley Hertz Kempner (Robert A. Kempner). Grandfather of Rachel G. Hertz, Jonathan H. Hertz, Jeremy P. Kempner and Daniel J. Kempner. Arrangements under the direction of Riverside-Nassau North Chapels, Great Neck. Services will be performed Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, and will be announced at a later date.

Obituary: Robert James Clemens

Robert James Clemens, 85, of Leesburg, FL, was born April 21, 1926 in Brooklyn, and died Oct. 17, 2011. He was a resident of Floral Park for more than 30 years.


Mr. Clemens was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard serving in WWII. He moved to Leesburg in 1996 from Floral Park, where he worked in transportation logistics for Texas Transport (3T’s), Conboy Trucking and Associated Transport. He served as a Republican Committee member for 19 years in Floral Park, was a member and former two-term Governor of the Downtown Athletic Club in New York City and member of the American Legion. He was active in the “Plantation at Leesburg” after retiring there and member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
