Ruth Naomi Honig, 86 of Floral Park resident, died on May 11 in Virginia Beach, VA after a brief illness. Ruth was the devoted wife of Dr. Klaas P. Honig, who predeceased her in 2011. She was the second child of Elsie and Marcus Quarum, born in Grand Forks, ND and raised in Fergus Falls, MN. After receiving her nursing degree from Concordia College, she worked as the head nurse of the neurology unit at Cook County Hospital in Chicago where she met her future husband.
After relocating to New York, she worked as her husband’s office manager and nurse until their retirement. Ruth enjoyed reading, opera, keeping up on current events, spoiling her grandchildren, and volunteering.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Peter Honig of Philadephia, PA, Dr. Mark Honig of Virginia Beach, VA and Janna Torelli of Wayzata, MN, and seven grandchildren. She will be laid to rest with her husband in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Southold Free Library.
Richard Bomze has passed away at age 76. His love for the racing industry is legendary and his contributions far-reaching. Richard was a founding member of the Belmont Child Care Association, and former board member.
He was owner and president of Star Sports Corp., which published American Turf Monthly. He was also a past president of the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association. He is survived by his wife, Diane, daughters Dana and Jennifer, a sister, Sandra, a brother, Edward, and four grandchildren.

Rosemary Wlach, 86, died on March 3. Beloved wife of the late Michael, Sr. Devoted mother of Michael. Jr. (Maryellen). Dear sister of Agnes and AnnaMae. Cherished grandmother of Christopher and Aidan. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass was held at Our Lady of the Snows RC Church with interment at Calverton National Cemetery. Eno W. Kroeger, 72, of Floral Park, died on March 8. He was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1941. Funeral services were held on March 12 at Our Lady of Victory RC Church in Floral Park, with interment at Pinelawn Memorial in Farmingdale.
Mary Sikes, of Floral Park, died on Feb. 22. Beloved wife of the late Barton. Loving mother of Thomas and his late wife Charlotte, Richard and his wife Geraldine. Cherished grandmother of Christopher, Karen, Richard and John, and great-grandmother of Christopher, Julia, Jack and Madison. Services were held at New Hyde Park Funeal Home. Mass was held at St. Hedwig’s RC Church in Floral Park, with interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.
Gary Menkel, 92, of Floral Park has died. Beloved father of Robert and Carrie. Predeceased by loving wife of 65 years, Margot, father-in-law of Robert Meadow and Maureen O’Hara, grandfather of Jacqueline and Nicole and companion of Eva Englander. Engineer, designer, painter, music lover, and maker and fixer of everything, refugee from German Holocaust.
Kathleen McKenna, 86, a long time Floral Park resident, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 15. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Alvin McKenna, her son Bruce and daughter-in-law Catherine, two grandchildren, and one great granddaughter. Services were held at Dillon & Smith Funeral Service of Sand Springs, OK.
Joan F. Cokelet, 80, formerly of Galway, NY, passed away on Feb. 23, at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. Cokelet was born on July 19, 1933 in Floral Park, daughter of the late Thomas and Frances Trainor. She is the widow of Ronald W. Cokelet Sr. Survivors include her children, Maria (James) Wojna of Concord, CA, and their children, Sarah and Alisha; Constance Stockwicz of Clifton Park and her children, Michael, Chelsea and Paul, Jr.; Christina (Timothy) Garland of Ballston Spa and their children, Sean, Jonathan and Patrick; and Michele (Richard) Mone of Stillwater and their children Brandon, Kyle and Ashley. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her son, Ronald W. Cokelet Jr., and her siblings, Thomas and James. Services were held on Feb. 26 at Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes in Mechanicville, NY. Funeral Mass was held at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, in Hagaman, NY, with interment at St. Stephen’s Cemetery in Hagaman.
