VFW Edwin J. Murphy Post No. 6910 held its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27 at the Floral Park Centre Memorial Park on McKee Street and Willis Avenue. On Nov. 10, 1946, Floral Park Centre citizens came together to honor eight servicemen from the community, unveiling a bronze memorial plaque. William Murphy, president of the Floral Park Centre Civic Association, gave the opening remarks 67 years ago.
“The ceremonies which we are now holding in recognition of the splendid services, often beyond the call of duty, made by these young men is deserving of the highest commendation.”
In 2013, Commander Richard Mooney opened the ceremony was joined by Vice Commanders Larry Sica Sr., Joseph Nigro Jr., Quartermasater Bill Baur, Adjutant Leonard Jindra, Officer of the Day Harold Marin and guest speaker Dr. Lawrence Jindra.
