As noted on the second page of this week’s issue, the new deadline going forward for Floral Park Dispatch/Three Village Times, as of next week’s issue (Oct. 12), will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. for the following week’s paper. This deadline is for all submissions: articles, photos, announcements, letters to the editor, obituaries and calendar items. As always, please consider the deadline on Wednesday morning to be the last-minute deadline, as we prefer to receive submissions earlier rather than later.
In addition, as we are undergoing a few format changes to make a better newspaper for the community, we request that letters to the editor follow the 400 word count limit. If letters go well beyond this limit, we will need to send them back for revision.
We thank you in advance for your respecting our deadlines.

Ever since she was a little girl, Floral Park resident, Maria Santangelo has had a way of making animals feel at ease. The 19-year-old college student worked with abused animals as a kid and currently volunteers as a kennel helper at the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington. She also has her own pet care and dog walking business in the village.
“I like making all dogs feel comfortable because every one of them has their own temperament,” said Santangelo who started her business two years ago with the help of her stepmother, Anne Marie. “I don’t push them but let them sniff me first so they get used to me.”

The largest event in the comic industry, Free Comic Book Day, is taking place on Saturday, May 3, at participating comic book specialty shops across the country and worldwide, including right at Floral Park’s own Superhero Comics.
“People can stop by any time,” said Superhero Comics owner Rich Brindisi. “I hope new customers stop by too and become life-long fans of comic books.”
