The following are trustee reports from the Dec. 2 Floral Park village board meeting.

Deputy Mayor Kevin Greene reported that the department is currently processing electrical and plumbing license renewals.

Applications have been received for an auto parts retail store at 2 Jericho Tpke. No installation or car repairs will be performed on this property. Also, an application was received for an Italian gourmet take-out food establishment at 49 Covert Avenue.

Trustee James Rhatigan reported that he, Mayor Phil Guarnieri and Deputy Mayor Greene attended presentations given by the New York Empire State Development Corporation and the State Wagering Board where potential plans for Belmont Park were discussed. These meetings were both informational as well as investigative, Trustee Rhatigan said, in that they sought input from community stakeholders as how to best develop two parcels adjacent to Hempstead Turnpike on the western end of the Belmont property. The governor has asked that a plan be presented to him by Dec. 31 and it is hoped that the current economic downturn will not outweigh a sensible and deliberative review that will stand the test of time in the eyes of the neighboring communities. The mayor and board will continue to monitor the progress of these plans. Trustee Rhatigan also reported that Recreation Director Kurt Meyfohrt invites all residents to join with his staff in welcoming Santa to the Recreation Center with songs and good cheer. The Recreation Center Holiday Tree Lighting will be held this Friday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Music will be provided by Gerry Hanson and light refreshments will be served.

Trustee Rhatigan said on behalf of the members of the department's Alert Company #1, it is with deep regret that he reports the passing of honorary chief and 66-year member Edward Keaney. Over his decades of service, Ed touched many lives both within the department as well as throughout the village, Trustee Rhatigan said. "Our prayers are with his wife, Margaret, and his children, Susan, Edward and Mary Frances, at this time of sorrow," Trustee Rhatigan added.

On motion by Trustee Tom Tweedy, seconded by Trustee Rhatigan and carried unanimously, Mayor Phil Guarnieri recessed the meeting at 9:20 p.m.
