This has been a very special year in Floral Park. The Centennial celebration has been truly outstanding. From the fireworks in the park, to the Centennial Parade and the enchanting Centennial Ball it has been truly a year to remember. The Floral Park spirit and pride on display showed everyone how special this village truly is.
I would be remiss if I didn't salute the efforts of Bill and Ann Corbett for their hard work and tireless efforts along with their committee. The Centennial Ball was packed and the excitement was contagious. In fact, restaurants throughout the village were packed with celebrants marking this milestone.
Friday night's celebration brings into focus why this village has such a strong foundation. Public service groups, athletic organizations, churches, quality schools, a vibrant business district and neighborhoods of people who care for one another are the heart and soul of "Floral Park."
As I walked around the Floral Terrace greeting residents, I reflected on how special this year is for the community. Floral Park should be proud. It should be real proud of its heritage and history. There's no question in my mind that John Lewis Childs is looking down on this village and is beaming with pride. The seed and bulb salesman has seen a collection of neighborhoods grow into a caring community of people called Floral Park.
Congratulations Floral Park, you are one of the shining lights on Long Island.
